Overview: Abacus Technology is in need of a Sr. Network Engineer to provide enterprise network engineering support to the office of Customs and Border Protection at the Department of Homeland Security. This is a full-time position.
Major Duties & Responsibilities: Participate in engineering efforts for the organization, such as:
- Designing/redesigning, building, and upgrading LANs and WANs
- Capacity planning, performance engineering, and troubleshooting
- Developing, testing, and implementing new LAN/WAN applications and hardware
- Configuration and versioning management; baselining and documenting configurations
- Analyzing and resolving LAN/WAN and mainframe communication issues
- Providing guidance for development and improvement of network capabilities
- Evaluating, testing, and documenting network software releases and hardware upgrades
- Providing Tier 3 support, including maintenance of data center network-related hardware, software, and network tools
Qualifications: 6+ years experience in a network/system administrator or engineering role working with all facets of physical network infrastructure. More than 3 years of experience in providing specialized system engineering services in support of operational communication systems and data, voice, and video applications. Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Professional certifications such as CCNA, CCDA, CCNP, CISSP, MCSE, etc. required. Must have solid in-depth knowledge and experience with Cisco switches and routers as well as network security equipment. Must be able to provide technical guidance and assistance to team members. Willing to share knowledge with team members, superiors, and users. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately in an empathetic and understanding manner. Experience in the areas of infrastructure engineering, sustainment engineering, performance engineering, and mission support. Must have experience leading project teams or individuals in network engineering activities. Able to maintain current knowledge and skills through in-services, workshops, and/or seminars. Demonstrate flexibility in adjusting to variable workload and job duties. Plan and implement projects without supervision. Previous experience supporting CBP or DHS highly desirable.
